Nude Maternity Photo Shoot Dallas – The Art of Photography – Dallas Maternity Photographer
The Louvre insured the Mona Lisa, in 1962, for $100 million dollars USD. Taking inflation into account, this would now value the insurance on the piece at roughly $850 Million, U.S. in 2019.
By contrast, Marcel Duchamp’s L.H.O.O.Q., 1919, a conceptual art piece parodying The Mona Lisa, was sold for $750,000. Marcel Duchamp widely recognized as the father of conceptual art.
What does all this mean, in relation to the art of photography?
Marcel Duchamp became infamous during the first world war as a “conceptual” artist. His parody of The Mona Lisa used a print of the painting, on which he painted a moustache, and transcribed the letters L.H.O.O.Q.,. The point being, this – a foundational piece in a movement and fathered a generation of modernists and “Pop Art”, is valued at barely a fraction of the original.
How this applies to a nude maternity photo shoot….
As a student and practitioner of art, I find this to be (maybe) the most useful information I’ve come across. What is the balance between the “art” and the “marketability.” If I was to take any subject and merely reproduce every element, pose, posture, focus, and background – how am I developing?
How am I pushing the experiential needle toward expression?
Simply, I am not.
While I am a commercial artist, I feel a debt to the photography medium, and the pioneers therein. It’s a mainstay of my studio to innovate. Thus, from this philosophy, came this photo shoot. I challenged myself to an entire shoot being a nude maternity shoot, either nearly nude or fully nude.
Nude maternity shoots can be challenging especially because you need to find ways to cover the subject but still be creative and show of the belly in multiple ways. I am grateful to my trusting model for accepting my challenge!
