What Attracted Me to Newborn Photography -Dallas Newborn Photographer – The Babymoon Photographer by CLJ Photography

Let me paint a picture: the first few hours after my first daughter was born, she looked like the aftermath of a car wreck. She was delivered with the use of forceps and had black-eyes and bruises all over. I wasn’t any better off than she was (26 hours of strenuous labor will do that).

But there was still a magnetism. You know it. My biology took over, but also my soul. They took her to weigh and clean, and I felt it – for the first time. My core begged to be with her. She returned, and I shed tears over her tiny, little body (I had waited for a long time for her). I couldn’t escape the dire need to care for her. She was so precious, after all. It dawned on me then that aside from the chapped lips, sweaty hair and no make-up – I wish there was a better way to preserve this moment.

This small quiet time exists only in my memory, and that is the real tragedy.

I came from a very artistic family, with a dad who is no slouch behind a camera. I had even pursued photography in high-school and college. I knew then, that the lack of qualified, professional photographers to capture these times, would result in many of our dearest moments being only a vague story. I anticipated a need that I felt, holding my child, when I began to pursue photography as a profession. We can see the kindling passion begin here. In that instance, in an awful hospital gown, covered in a film of sweat that the candle was lit. Soon, I was consumed by this new ambition.

This is my drive and passion: To preserve the legacy of our memories.

I can’t let these most substantial of moments fade with senility or cloud over time. The story of any child should have the company of a physical piece. Art that can be stacked in a repository of reverie for generations. To inform these children and grandchildren “that the tiny baby is your father. He was just a week old. And that’s your grandmother holding him.”
