Newborn Photo Shoot Safety – Frisco Newborn Photographer – CLJ Photography
Beauty and Lifestyle Mommy Magazine is focusing on Child Safety this month. As a newborn photographer, consequently, I really wanted to discuss safety during your newborn portrait session.
Your newborn is FRAGILE.
With the genre of newborn photography becoming mainstream the past decade, there has been a surge of photographers with little experience in posing babies properly. It is quite common for inexperienced photographers to try poses that compromise the safety of the child. Currently, there is no safety regulation in the industry and therefore no specific training for the unique needs of your baby.
The safety of your baby a main focus in the studio. CLJ Photography has spent many hours learning proper techniques for capturing these treasured images.
This example shows how the “potato sack portrait” is safely achieved.
I will carefully wrap your newborn two or three times for stability and support. I check airways and the fingers for good circulation. The wrap behind the neck and also a spotter helps to support the weight of the head. Newborns have fewer sweat glands and so it is also important to make sure they are not getting too hot.
Here is another example:
Your newborn is PRECIOUS.
Newborns can be photographed and posed safely. So please, take some time and ask your photographer about their training and education. Here is a link to the Accredited Professional Newborn Photographers International, or APNPI – they have a great downloadable list of questions to ask your photographer! Make sure to speak up if you feel your baby is in a compromised and unsafe position. You should be able to fully trust the professional handling your infant.
Your baby is beautiful! This is a moment to celebrate and cherish! We would love to help you document and capture this fleeting time, safely.
