Carrying your child during pregnancy can be a worry for most women. You worry about feeling them kick and hoping they develop correctly. Pregnancy is a stressful time, although absolutely incredible. Carrying twins adds double the stress and the “unknowns” just add on. For Mom, when your child does end up in the NICU, it can be a very emotional, difficult time to process.

So what happens when your baby does end up in the NICU? Or, when both your babies spend time there?

First.

Ideally newborn sessions are booked in your second trimester. We have time to plan and design your shoot. And, Fresh 48 is included in every booked shoot so we schedule out using your due date and 7-14 days after that for your newborn session. Both dates are tentative, as much as we would love to know the exact date our babies will arrive!

These sweet little girls arrived many weeks early and spent about a month in the NICU. It was a scary moment with each girl only weighing a few pounds.

Second.

Double check with your hospital on your tour regarding their policy on photographers. This is especially true when you are carrying twins. Ask them about NICU Photo Shoots so you know what to expect, if and when it might happen.

Third.

A big part of photographing your babies in the NICU depends on them! I would never, ever place your child in harms way. I watch my health, get my immunizations and work hard to ensure when I handle your baby, I understand their comfort and health. So, once your babies arrive, and IF they do go into the NICU, really just communication is KEY! I can always make a trip to the hospital within a day or so, if needed. If you want these moments, I can capture them for you.

These sweet girls did amazing! True fighters! After several weeks in the NICU they went home and finally came to my studio for their first family portrait. It was very special to photograph this moment. To have walked with this family through their difficult time.
