Plano Maternity Photo Session – Dallas Maternity Photographer – CLJ Photography
There are a lot of considerations when planning your maternity session. We will discuss these during your design session and at your complimentary consultation. But I wanted to hit on a couple important things to think about while planning your images.
Location.
I do a lot of sessions in my studio however outdoor shoots can be so beautiful! One of my favorite outside locations is Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. There are so many options for settings. The key to outdoor photography is finding the right light. Arbor Hills makes catching that gorgeous, soft evening light is so easy. There are many locations we can suggest to match your desired look.
Timing.
Every outside portrait session is scheduled about an hour before sunset. We will push the session about half an hour past sunset. This time of day is ideal for light. But it does make it difficult with little ones. It’s important to take into consideration when scheduling. We don’t schedule during peak sun hours. Harsh shadows and blown out highlights are difficult to work around during the day hours.
Time of Year and Temperature.
Another consideration is the Texas heat. Right now, outside portrait sessions can be a big concern for pregnant women. We always recommend bringing along a neck fan, cooling cloth, lots of water and even an umbrella for added shade. But not only as health concerns, sweating and dripping can be a problem. Wear the right gowns and plan ahead!

These are good things to consider when scheduling maternity sessions. Midnight sun made family and maternity sessions so tricky when we lived in Alaska.
Awesome tips for expecting mommas to have for sessions. The location looks gorgeous!
