What an amazing change in your life, whether it is your first baby, your last or somewhere in between. With such a big change, life starts to move, ever so fast, as the planning for this little life begins as well. We wish the best for our little one. Nights laying awake wondering if the crib sheets will be exactly perfect or if the diapers you are stocking up will be gentle on the skin. You wonder who they will look like and who they will grow up to be. Experiencing that new life is so incredible.
With a baby on the way, there is so much that divides your attention and wallet. The doctor, the hospital, the crib, the clothes, diapers, everything. Let’s face it, every expecting mommy WANTS newborn portraits. It’s so tough to pass on this seemingly frivolous expense – but with all those lovely, raging hormones, it’s possible to keep our sanity with a photographer booked and ready.

I have never heard a client regret GETTING pictures taken. In fact, sadly, I have heard lots of regrets about not getting them. There will come a time when your grandchildren are gathered at your knees and you will want to pick up an album and go through the pages with them. I have a handful of pictures of my grandparents and I cherish them and they are up in my home. I want my children to have pictures of me and I want my grandchildren to have pictures of my children. My great-grandchildren to have pictures of my grandchildren. A beautiful timeline of our history and lives are in these images. Once you begin to look at these as bigger than the moment, they become invaluable.
4. That’s all that’s Left.
I touched on this a little above, but these images are the only thing we can take with us on our journey of life. On the day after your wedding you have two things left, a husband and your photos and they had better both be good – well, this goes the same for newborn photography.

It got me when you said that having a photo album with the photos of your baby will be a great way to reminisce and enjoy with your grandchildren in the future. I will definitely have my baby taken a picture when I give birth so that I can tell stories in the future. This is actually perfect for me because I can easily forget memories without the help of a photo. My husband would try to make me remember by telling the details, but I still won’t remember them without a proof or image.
Thanks for explaining the importance of baby photography. I like that you mentioned this is like having a beautiful timeline of your family history and lives. It also seems like it could be a beautiful way to see how much someone has grown over the years.
