5 Tips for a Sleepy Baby – Newborn Photo Shoot Frisco
You’ve booked your newborn portrait session and now you are just praying for a sleepy baby. You want those precious newborn, curly poses and images. It goes through every parent’s mind. We have five tips for a sleepy baby. So, relax and let your little one rock their photo shoot.
Sleepy Tip 1:
Plan your feedings. The easiest time for a photographer to start working with your baby is right after a meal. Imagine, Thanksgiving and you’ve eaten your heart out. What’s the best after dinner activity?? A NAP! Arrive at the studio ready to nurse.
Sleepy Tip 2:
Give your baby a full nursing. When you do arrive at the studio, don’t rush the breastfeeding or bottle feeding. If your baby is still hungry when we get started, it makes things more difficult. Just relax and take your time. It’s much better in the long run!
Sleepy Tip 3:
It might be rough but try to keep your baby awake for an hour or two BEFORE the shoot. Tickle their little face, give them love and move them around gently. Talk to you baby and just try to extend that period of wakefulness as much as possible.
Sleepy Tip 4:
Soothe your baby and pamper your baby before your shoot. A warm bath and massaging with lotion not only helps your baby relax before the photo shoot but is also so helpful for the photographer! Flaky skin can be difficult removing in photoshop post photo shoot but clean skin and lotion goes a long way!
Sleepy Tip 5
Consider bringing a pacifier. Your baby may not like them very much and we certainly don’t want to interfere with nursings but pacifiers are extremely helpful for soothing your little one. Personally, I use the pacifier to understand your baby’s cues. If your baby drops off to sleep quickly= then we remove it quickly. If you baby has a hard time going to sleep even with the pacifier, it might be time to go back to Mommy.
